Team Up With AJ Fullerton To Make And “Old Time Gospel Roots” Record
Colorado Americana artists Erik Lunde & Sweet Virginia teamed up with Artist / Producer A.J. Fullerton to make a new record of “Traditional Gospel, Hymns and Spirituals” influenced by artists such as Norman Blake, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Ralph Stanley, & Mahalia Jackson, Washington Philips & more. Recorded in 24 hours on location in a a rustic log cabin along the South Platte River, the album captures the music in the perfect setting for an old time string band. The rawness of the session is captured in the 8 songs, along with an atmosphere entirely unique to the moment including the occasional accompaniment of gentle summer rain falling on the 130 year old roof.
The record is an Old Timey Carter Family-Style celebration of some of the most beloved old Gospel songs in the American Songbook. The songs draw deeply from the duo’s upbringing in the Southern Baptist church with influences from the Folk, Country, Bluegrass and African-American spiritual styles. The new album was released in November 2024, and they will be touring the album at select venues in Colorado throughout 2025, beginning with a show at Swallow Hill in Denver on January 24th, 2025.
